A nice backup though when picasa is lacking. But the program is still somewhat slow for me.

The latest version of Fastone is slick and the full screen mode is pretty neat. To organize you need to quickly see the picts, so an organizer needs to be a viewer? Anyway I use picasa pretty much for everything I used the classic ACDSEE for so I tend to equate the too programs. I'm not sure what the difference is between a viewer and organizer. Back in the ACDSEE days I was always saving pictures as DCS2005c.jpg to denote a cropped image.

Plus I love that it does not touch the originals unless I tell it too. Picasa is rather limited on export options, but for cropping, resizing, finding, straightening, etc it has done everything I need it to do. Hit CTRL-ALT any time any where and the current picture will display in full screen. I just found out recently Picasa does have a simple full screen mode Its full screen mode is non-existant(as slideshow is not it).įaststone full screen mode is unbelievable. How are they better than picasa, or are they just what you've always used. I would like something that never ever touches my originals.įor the infranview/faststone lovers.

Then it moves the originals to a temp folder/file. For some reason my picasa forgets this info.įor the most part picasa does not touch the originals. Each image is supposed to have a mini uploaded icon, and you can filter on uploaded. It forgets what I've uploaded to web albums. Can't do that in picasa but it looks like I can with some other programs. On upload I would like to create semi unique file names by adding the exif date to the camera's file name. I'll have five distinct different pictures all with the same file name. (I have several carmeras using the same naming scheme and have "rolled over on some cameras".

It has no useful options to rename picts when uploading based on xif data. I may try moving to elements or photo shop and it might suit my needs but the free stuff like faststone/xnview/infranview never address my issues, complicate my workflow and in some cases do not perform as well with a zillion picts. I have some issues with picasa and am always looking for something better. I've mostly switched to picasa web albums and labeling/commenting on each photo

I would be very interested if someone has an alternate to picasa that supports pictures and video.Ĭuriosly it only works on outlook not gmail but I also get raves on the way picasa can generate HTML story book emails. I can find nothing else that supports both picts and videos end to end (downloading, viewing, posting on the web). Note all of my camera's mpeg4 videos are integrated into the above process and even are posted along with the picts on the picasa web album. Send picasa generated email to friends/family inviting them to view the album.įor our digital photo frame same as above but I add a step to export all the picts at 800圆00 to a separate folder.Go through the hundreds of picts/videos and "Star" the good ones.Windows pops up with picasa as the default option for downloading picts.

It's simple, easy to use, does not choke on my 10's of thousands of photos, easy to install (no pluggins to get stuff like video), very fast, has OK basic photo editing, and integrates so well with google stuff like gmail (it knows my contacts) and picasa web albums (one click to upload). I've tried everything, the ones mentioned above, and several others including Xnview. However I've moved on and now use Picasa.
